This Webinar will look into the history and development of the Byzantine Orthodox Church throughout the world and review the essential design elements in the design of these structures. The Webinar will also focus on floor plan development, cross sectional emphasis of the architecture, and the cultural variations of Orthodox Architecture. We will also share examples on how Modern Architects have interpreted this building type.
Mr. Pappas is the founding principal of Constantine George Pappas AIA Architecture/ Planning.
Founded in April 1982, the firm specializes in high qualityInstitutional and Religious Projects throughout the Midwest. Mr. Pappas’ design excellence has earned spots in many international, national and local architectural magazines and periodicals. The design excellence of the firm continues with numerous AIA National, AIA Michigan, AIA Detroit, Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD) and the Masonry Institute of Michigan Honor Design Awards. The firm has won thirty‐eight ( 38 ) design awards over the last twenty years. Mr. Pappas is a continuing adjunct faculty design juror and lecturer in various Schools of Architecture ( University of Michigan, University of Detroit Mercy, and Lawrence Technological University ).
In 2002, Mr. Pappas was bestowed with one of the highest honors given to an architect at a national level. His elevation into the American Institute of Architects National College of Fellows was based on his design excellence and commitment to religious architecture. In 2006, Mr. Pappas received the Lawrence Technological University’s Architectural Alumni Achievement Award. He is the tenth recipient among the University’s 5,000 architectural alumni. In 2017, Mr. Pappas received the AIA Detroit Gold Medal for the commitment to Architecture of Metropolitan Detroit.
