With a career spanning 35 years, Shelley Kolman Smith is a versatile artist whose work continuously evolves across multiple mediums. Initially known for her portraiture in pencil, watercolor, and oil, Shelley’s artistic journey took a transformative turn when she began exploring sculpture. Her ability to capture not just the likeness but the essence of her subjects quickly translated to three-dimensional works. Her early bronze sculptures gained significant recognition, with her St. Ignatius sculpture selling eight editions, two of which are displayed in Washington, D.C. Her liturgical and portrait sculptures can be found in prominent locations across the U.S., offering a sense of life and breath to her subjects. In addition to her sculpture work, Shelley embraces the pastoral life, tending to a flock of sheep, and spinning their wool to create clothing—showcasing a unique, integrated approach to creativity that combines her passion for art with the natural world.
