Member Biography:
Lisa Bierer has been working as a full time visual artist for over 20 years. Her early painting career began as a commission-based mural artist, offering design consultation and custom mural work for all types of commercial and residential spaces primarily in southern Minnesota. In 2004 Bierer received the first of four grants which allowed her to pursue a different focus for her painting. These grants created opportunities to attend workshops, execute special projects, and make possible the creation of focused bodies of work for exhibition. Since then, Bierer has executed numerous solo shows and shared exhibits in the region in addition to receiving commissions for larger grant-funded works and installations. Recent years have seen Lisa Bierer’s paintings evolve to include large-scale liturgical works and sacred art commissions. She has been creating installations and seasonal liturgical works for churches and faith communities across the US, Canada, and Australia since 2011. In 2022, Bierer completed her certificate in Liturgical Art and Architecture from St. John’s School of Theology and Seminary in Collegeville, MN.

Work Philosophy

My basic philosophy is about beauty, and how beauty opens us up to an encounter with God. Before diving into a project, I research whatever subject I'm painting…and I find that I am inspired by language : scripture, story, poetry and Eucharistic Prayers. I am also on the lookout for ways to be hospitable with our spaces, and creating invitation with beautiful work.

Services and Qualifications

Site specific artwork, including paintings on various substrates, collages and mixed media. Commissioned liturgical pieces, both permanent and impermanent. Large format painted hangings/banners for church use, event spaces, or as an installation.

I have been approached sometimes for my ideation…for a space, an event, for change. This will include listening to people's thoughts and ideas, and desires, and design thinking sessions.I have designed collaborative art projects for faith communities for use in their prayer spaces, or as an impermanent /seasonal exhibit.

Full time painting since 2000: including commercial,and residential murals, community art, art exhibits; most recent in 2022, Saint Peter Art Center, Saint Peter, MN, and early summer 2023 in St.Mary Basilica, Mpls, MN.

Accepting liturgical commissions for Faith communities, Parishes and other sacred spaces since 2011.
