Gilbert Sunghera, S.J. directs the Liturgical Space Consulting Service, a non-profit firm based at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Architecture. He brings a professional background in Architectural Design and Liturgy to assist congregations plan for the future. He has consulted on several projects for the Jesuits during his priestly formation, and brings this experience to UDM LSC which has a proven track-record of assisting community organizations envision new and supportive environments. Gilbert Sunghera, S.J. earned a BA at the University of California, Irvine (focus: Environmental Psychology how people are affected by their built environments) and a Master in Architecture from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. After working three years as an Architectural Designer, primarily with non-profit groups in Los Angeles, he entered religious formation, and received an M.Div from the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley in 2002. After Ordination he served as Director of Liturgy for a large multicultural congregation in San Jose, California, and continued his study on the relationship between religion and architecture at Yale from 2004-2005, earning a Master of Sacred Theology. He is an Associate Professor of Architecture at the University of Detroit Mercy and directs the UDM Liturgical Space Consulting Service. Currently Serves as the Superior of the Jesuit Community at Gonzaga University and continues the work of the UDM Liturgical Consulting Service.
